An incident has been remarked while a video has gone viral across media. The video has showcased how China’s Airlines have been caught violating the major rules. A pilot of China’s Airlines was found sleeping in the cockpit while flying a Boeing 747.
Weng Jiagi is a senior pilot with almost 20 years of experience who dozed off. The video was shot by a co – pilot for 30 seconds that went viral showing sleepy senior pilot whose head is dangling forward and eyes are closed while the flight was midair.
Another China Airlines’ pilot commented, “Fatigue is inevitable. But as a senior officer, the pilot should have set a good example for his subordinates.”
Netizens have strongly criticized this as soon as the video reached social media platforms, netizens got angry over Weng for putting the lives of his passengers into danger. Following this, the airlines have informed the media that the pilot has “received adequate punishment” and disciplinary actions have been taken against him.
“If the pilot (Weng) was really too tired, he should have alerted crew-members and have them observe his condition,” the pilot added.
The embarrassing video surfaced just days after the Chinese airlines pilots ended an unprecedented seven-day strike over issues such as pilot fatigue and long working hours.
China Airlines has also suggested the co-pilot who filmed and released the video may also be punished for choosing to record the clip instead of wake his senior officer up.
According to Civil Aviation Bureau, pilots should be given at least 24 hours off if they’ve flown over 12-hours.
It seems as China Airlines’ Pilots are not getting adequate sleep and major rules are violated, the inability of China Airlines to adequately address the Pilot’s needs, this incident has put life of many passengers on risk flying on Boeing 747.
