Canada PM Trudeau and family shifted to an undisclosed location amid security concerns: Report
New Delhi: The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, moved to a different location with his family after the protest of thousands of people in the country. Trudeau moved as thousands of protesters took part in the so-called ‘Freedom Convoy’ in Ottawa.
Thousands of protesters gathered on Parliament Hill in Canada’s Ontario calling for an end to Covid-19 vaccine mandates and other public health restrictions.
The police are on high alert for possible violence even though the organizers are urging the crowds to be peaceful. Several criminal investigations are underway into actions — including the desecration of monuments — during an ongoing protest of government-imposed vaccine mandates and COVID-19 restrictions, Ottawa police confirmed Sunday.
Residents of the national capital were again being told to avoid traveling downtown as trucks snarled numerous roads. Several city bus routes were redirected to avoid the area around the Hill, and the nearby Rideau Centre shopping mall remained closed after shutting down early on Saturday.
The noisy protests threatened to disrupt business on Monday, with local authorities saying that City Hall will be closed, traffic will be disrupted, and certain services could be halted.
In western Canada last week, dozens of truckers came together to organize a convoy to demonstrate against COVID-related restrictions, particularly the recently implemented vaccination requirements for truckers crossing the US-Canada border.
On Friday, a number of convoys arrived in Ottawa, joined by a large number of other anti-vaccination protestors.
