Brazil to buy as much as possible energy resources from Russia
New Delhi: Brazil’s Foreign Minister Carlos Alberto Franca on Tuesday said, “Brazil would like to purchase as much energy resources as it could from Russia. Moscow is a strategic partner of Brazil, we are partners in BRICS. We rely heavily on fertilizers exported from Russia, and Belarus as well,”
“Of course, Russia is a great provider of oil and gas. You can ask Germany about that, you can ask Europe about that,” the Minister noted.
“We have to make sure that we have enough diesel [fuel] for the Brazilian agribusiness, for Brazilian drivers. That’s why we are looking in for reliable suppliers, Russia is one of them,” the Foreign Minister said.
“As much as we can,” he added, responding to the question about volumes of potential purchases from Russia.
According to the media report, Brazil and Russia are “Strategic Partners and Technological Allies”. The two countries are committed to achieving US$10 billion in trade. In 2012, the bilateral exchange registered almost US$6 billion. The number of Brazilian companies installed in Russia has grown significantly.
In 2020, Russia had a large net trade with Brazil in the exports of Chemical Products ($1.48B), Mineral Products ($339M), and Metals ($119M). In 2020, Brazil had a large net trade with Russia in the exports of Vegetable Products ($644M), Animal Products ($318M), and Foodstuffs ($179M).
