New Delhi: The Punjab Police on Friday morning arrested Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga from his residence in Delhi. Police arrested the national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Bagga on a complaint registered with its cyber cell.
According to the Punjab Police statement, “Today morning following due process of law, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga has been arrested from his home in Janakpuri, New Delhi. He is being brought here and will be produced in Court. Further investigation is being done by SIT of SAS Nagar Police,”
“FIR registered on May 1 by PS Punjab State Cyber Crime, SAS Nagar against Tajinder Bagga on a complaint of causing instigation, criminal intimidation to cause violence, imminent hurt by publishing false and communal inflammatory statements on social media,” the statement added.
Bagga was booked last month after AAP leader Sunny Singh filed a complaint against him alleging that Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga had made provocative statements, spread rumors, and tried to create religious and communal enmity. Bagga allegedly threatened Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal during a protest on March 30. The complainant also submitted statements and video clips of Bagga to the police.
A spokesperson of Delhi BJP Praveen Shankar Kapoor condemned the arrest and said that “It is extremely shameful that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has started abusing his party’s political power in Punjab to intimidate political opponents. Every citizen of Delhi stands with the family of Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga in this hour of crisis,”
Tajinder’s father Pritpal Singh Bagga said: “Around 10-15 Punjab Police cops barged into my home In the morning. They punched me in the face when I tried making a video of the arrest. They took away my phone. At 8:30 am, they dragged Tajinder outside. They didn’t even allow him to wear a proper turban.”
