Alka Yaganik became the most streamed YouTube singer, beating BTS and Taylor Swift
New Delhi, January 31: Alka Yangnik, India’s legendary music artist who has sung a number of hit songs, has been named the world’s most streamed singer on YouTube for the year 2022, surpassing popular singers such as BTS and Taylor Swift. The news about the most streamed singer was announced by Ginness World Records.
Ginness World published the news about this, saying “a 56-year old, Kolkata-born artist named Alka Yaganik has been the most popular artist on the platform.”
Bollywood’s iconic singer was recorded to have had 15.3 billion YouTube streams in the last year, which means an average of 42 million per day, making her the most streamed singer on YouTube. But this is not the first time the singer has obtained that spot. In the year 2021, she had 17 million YouTube streamers. In 2020, the singer had 16.6 billion, as she has been at the top of the chart for three consecutive years.
Alka Yagnik was not the only Indian singer who was on this list, but the three male trios—Udit Narayan with 10.8 billion, Arijit Singh with 10.7 billion and Kumar Sanu with 9.09 billion ranked in the top five, occupying the third, fourth, and fifth spots, respectively, for the year 2022.
Bad Bunny, on the other hand, came in second place with 14.70 billion streams, while other world-renowned and popular singers and singing bands like South Korean superstars BTS (7.95 billion) and Blackpink (7.03 billion) were able to get on the top ten lists. Whereas the singer Taylor Swift, with 4.33 billion, ranked in the 26th position, The Weeknd (5.7 billion) and Darke (2.9 billion) got the 13th and 50th ranks, respectively.
