Accident: Dam collapse triggers floods in Bihar; no loss of life
New Delhi: Strong currents of the River Kosi led to the collapse of the Sikarhatta-Mazhari dam in the Supaul district of Bihar on Friday, triggering flooding of numerous villages, and rising water levels of River Tilyuga.
Kosi’s water levels have been fluctuating since the onset of the monsoon. The swollen river violently hit against the 100 feet-long dam, District Magistrate Mahendra Kumar, Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar, and other top officials, who rushed to the spot, noted.
According to media reports, a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also present at the location.
