NEW DELHI, Feb 10: The voter count in Assam has dropped by 2.43 lakhs after the conclusion of the special revision of electoral rolls, data released by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has revealed.
A total of 29,646 booth-level officers were engaged across Assam for the special revision, which differed from the special intensive revision (SIR) conducted simultaneously in 12 other States and Union Territories. The final electoral roll was published on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by the CEO’s office, the total number of voters decreased by 2,43,485 from 2,52,01,624 published in the integrated draft voter list on December 27, 2025, to 2,49,58,139 in the final list. “This represents a 0.97% decrease compared to the draft voter list,” the statement read. The draft list had 1.35% more voters than the previous final roll published in January 2025.
Poll officials said 7.87 lakh additions and 10.26 lakh deletions were recorded during the special revision from November 22 to December 27, 2025. The deletions were attributed to deceased electors (4.79 lakh), shifted electors (5.24 lakh), and multiple entries (53,619).
The final voter list includes 1,24,82,213 male voters, 1,24,75,583 female voters, and 343 third-gender voters.
The statement further said a 30-day appeal window has been provided for electors or applicants who have grievances. The appeal can be made to the District Magistrate within 15 days of the publication of the final voter list, with a “second appeal available to the CEO within 30 days.”
The period for submitting claims and objections after the publication of the draft roll was from December 27, 2025, to January 22, 2026. The Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said an “extensive” SIR of the State’s poll rolls would take place after the Assembly election, likely by April. There are 126 Assembly seats in Assam.
