NEW DELHI, Oct 25: Meta-owned WhatsApp which faced problems worldwide was restored after being down for about couple of hours on Tuesday afternoon.
Thousands of users complained of outages on Twitter. The services were restored for some users after the unexplained disruption that lasted over an hour.
Meta, which owns WhatsApp, said, “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible.”
On Downdetector too, the website which monitors real-time problem & outage, the reported cases for Indian users have dropped to less than 3,000. WhatsApp was reported to be down in many parts of the world including India. Multiple users have claimed that they were not able to send, receive or even login in their WhatsApp account.
According to Downdetector, user reports indicate WhatsApp faced problems since 3:17 AM EDT (12:47 pm). It adds, in India, about 28,413 users have reported the problem on their website at around 12:30 pm. 69% of the people who have reported the issue complained to have problem in sending messages, while 7% faced problem with the App and 24% of them reported problem with the server connection.
Media reports said users in Asia, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Europe reported issues while sending and receiving texts and videos on WhatsApp. At around 0750 GMT, outage reporting site Downdetector showed over 68,000 users had reported problems with the app in the United Kingdom. Problems were reported by 19,000 people in Singapore and 15,000 people in South Africa.
WhatsApp users in France also suffered with the issue. “WhatsApp stopped working for many users across France on Tuesday, with around 9,540 problems registered in the last 24 hours about the Meta Platforms owned service on the Downdetector,” reports said.
WhatsApp currently has over 350 million monthly active users in India. The platform had earlier this year rolled out features to help businesses connect with users in the country.
