Known for his roles in Baadshah as Casino Manager, in Khiladi as Principal, veteran actor Dinyar Contractor took his last breath today early morning. The star who never failed to amaze us with his comic timing and powerful acting passed away at 79 due to old age-related illnesses.
Earlier this year, Contractor was awarded with the coveted Padma Shri Award by the President of India, Ramnath Kovind. He was a popular theatre actor and a film personality whom the audience will remember for the longest time.
Dinyar started his acting career by doing several stage shows and became popular for his comic roles. He was seen in Bollywood films like Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Khiladi, Badshah, Daraar and 36 China Town. TV shows like Khichdi, Kabhi Idhar Kabhi Udhar, Hum Sab Ek Hain, Aaj Ke Shrimaan Shrimati and many others made him a household name.
Actor-politican Smriti Irani shared her condolences on Twitter. She wrote, “He brought bursts of laughter with him wherever he went, he lit up the screen and our lives with his wit & charm. We will miss your presence Dinyar bhai. Rest in Peace Padma Shri Dinyar Contractor – theatre legend, actor par excellence”
The funeral will be held at Worli prayer hall in Mumbai at 3:30 pm.
