New Delhi: Gone are the days when one could publish only 140 characters on the microblogging platform Twitter which, in 2017, increased this limit to 280 characters. Character and space crunch squeezed words and sentences, even grammar—for instance, the word text became morphed as txt—but multiplied manifold the number of micro-writers and influencers.

Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter in October 2022, has now expanded the user’s character limit to 10,000. This would enable wannabe writers and influencers to instantly publish their views, opinions, and even small stories and articles on this social media platform.

That is, Twitter might force some of the publishers to shut their shop!

The microblogging platform said it will now support tweets with up to 10,000 characters in length with bold and italic text formatting, exclusively for Twitter Blue subscribers. Musk confirmed that the legacy checkmarks, announced in March, will be removed on April 20.

His social media platform would offer subscriptions to content, including long-form text and hours-long video—thus threatening video streamers like YouTube also.

Twitter will enable users to access key features through the monetization tab in settings.

About the content subscription, Musk said that Twitter will not cut any money for the next twelve months.

“You will receive whatever money we receive, so that’s 70 percent for subscriptions on iOS & Android (they charge 30 percent) and ~92 percent on the web (could be better, depending on payment processor),” he said in a tweet.

The social media platform will help promoters in promoting their work to maximize creator prosperity.
