Swachha Bharat Mission: Tourists forced to Drive Back 80 Kms to Clean up Garbage They Left behind
NEW DELHI, Nov 6: Everyone perhaps should learn a lesson from this. Two young tourists were forced to drive back for about 80 kilometres, in effect 160 kms up and down, just to clean up the garbage mess they had left behind in an open forest area in Karnataka.
This happened at the behest of the police after Kodagu Tourism Association’s General Secretary posted on social media the video of garbage left uncleaned by the tourists without bothering to drop the same in garbage drum.
“I found their mobile number on a bill inside a pizza box and called them, but they did not give a positive response,” said Madetira Thimmaiah, General Secretary, Kodagu Tourism Association.
But after he posted a video of the garbage online and informed the police of the incident, various villagers also requested the police to look into the matter. Consequently, the travellers were held at a check-post near Mysuru and were made to go back to Kodagu forest area to clean up the garbage they had littered all over the place while taking their lunch.
