NEW DELHI, Jan 4: A stampede-like situation developed during a marathon organised by a Congress leader in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district on Tuesday as part of the party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi’s massive outreach programme for women “Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon.”
The marathon was organised as part of Congress’s election campaign.
Hundreds of women and children ignoring the Covid-19 protocols were participating in the marathon. As they started to run, a few women tripped and fell to the ground, leading to a stampede-like situation as the crowd pushed forward.
There, however, was no major accident though several of the participants sustained some minor injuries. The marathon was organised by Congress leader and former Bareilly mayor Supriya Aron. Reacting to the incident Aron said, “When stampede can happen in Vaishno Devi, we should not highlight this incident. This is human nature.”
Supriya Aron further apologised and said the incident can also be a conspiracy against Congress.
The marathon was organized as part of Congress party’s “Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon” (I am a woman, I can fight) campaign.
