NEW DELHI, Oct 31: A new method to eliminate the possibility of theft or wrong home delivery of cooking gas cylinders will come into effect in 100 smart cities in the country from Sunday.
According to an official spokesman, from Sunday onwards a one-time password will be required to authenticate at the time of home delivery of LPG cylinders.
In Delhi, online booking for high-security registration plates will also resume from Sunday.
The OTP system for LPG cylinders was implemented as a pilot project in Jaipur, and will now be expanded to 100 smart cities. Customers will get an OTP on their registered mobile number. Only after providing this to the delivery person, the cylinder will be delivered. “This will help prevent theft,” the spokesman said.
The Indane customers will have to use a new common phone number 7718955555 all over the country to book LPG cylinders from Sunday. Presently the numbers differ from area to area for the customers.
Online booking for getting high- security registration plates (HSRP) and colour coded stickers affixed in vehicles will restart in Delhi from Sunday. Transport officials said each vehicle owner booking HSRP online would get a receipt so that even if there was any future drive by transport department to penalise violations, they would not be punished even if there was delay on the part of dealers or manufacturers.
High-security number plate, colour-coded fuel plate has been made mandatory in Delhi from October 1.
