One Killed, 15 Injured in Railway Foot Over-bridge Collapse
NEW DELHI, Nov 27: At least one person was killed and 15 others were injured after part of a foot over bridge at Balharshah railway station in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur collapsed on Sunday. As per the latest information, those injured have been shifted to the civil hospital.
The incident happened around 5:10pm. The overbridge connected platform 1 and 2 of the station in Chandrapur, about 150 kms from Nagpur.
“A part of pre-cast slab of the FOB (foot over bridge) at Balharshah railway station connecting platform 1 and 2 has fallen down at around 17.10 hrs,” central railways official spokesman said.
Railways announced ex gratia of ₹1 lakh for those who were grievously injured in the accident and ₹50,000 to those who sustained light injuries. “Injured persons being given best medical treatment by shifting them to other hospitals for early recovery,” the railways spokesperson said. Announcement about the compensation to the family of the deceased was yet to be made.
