NEW DELHI, June 29: Ajmer Dargah Deewan Zainul Abedin Ali Khan while condemning the Udaipur murder of a tailor has asserted that the Muslims in India would never allow “talibanisation mindset” to surface in the country.
Two men with a cleaver killed a tailor in Udaipur and posted videos online that said they are avenging an insult to Islam. “No religion promotes violence against humanity. Especially, in the religion of Islam, all the teachings act as sources of peace,” Khan said in a statement. “In the gruesome video that surfaced on the internet, some non-ethical minds committed a brutal attack on a poor man which is received as a punishable sin in the Islamic world,” he said.
Khan said the accused were a part of certain radical groups that find a solution only via the path of violence. “I strongly discourage this act and plead the government to take strict action against them. Muslims of India will never allow talibanisation mindset to surface in our motherland,” he said.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind General Secretary Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi also condemned the murder. “Whoever carried out this incident cannot be justified in any way, it is against the law of the land and our religion,” he said in a statement. “There is a rule of law in our country, no one has the right to take the law in their hands,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan police has described as “fake” a report in a section of the media that the two assailants of the tailor arrested within hours of committing the crime on Tuesday afternoon, were served “biryani” in the police custody. The fake story on a purported Hindi news website carried the headline – “After being arrested, the two Udaipur killers would be served biryani in Rajasthan jail. What if it was in UP (Uttar Pradesh)?”
The story was tweeted by many, including the anchor of a news channel, who has now deleted the post. “A fake news is going viral. This is absolutely wrong. In Udaipur, strict action will be taken against the criminals. The police will not deal softly with criminals. We are committed to maintaining law and order in the state,” the Rajasthan Police tweeted in Hindi, along with a screenshot of the fake news webpage shared by a verified handle.
A day after violent protests, the situation is calm in Udaipur except for sporadic minor incidents, the police said.
