NEW DELHI, Dec 10: The victorious BJP legislature party in Gujarat on Saturday re-elected Bhupendra Patel as the leader paving way for him to be re-installed as the chief minister of the home state of the prime minister Narendra Modi and the union home minister Amit Shah.

Patel accompanied by the state BJP president C R Paatil later called on the governor Acharya Devvrat and staked his claim to form the ministry. The governor issued him the invitation to take the oath of office and secrecy and the swearing-in ceremony of the new ministry was decided to be held at the Helipad ground in Gandhinagar on Monday.

After the BJP’s record victory with 156 seats in the House of 182, Patel had submitted the resignation of his outgoing ministry to the governor on Friday and was asked to continue as the caretaker chief minister till the new ministry was installed in the office.

Patel had replaced Vijay Rupani as the Chief Minister in September 2021, a year before the state Assembly elections. Under his leadership the BJP not only captured the highest number of seats, it also shattered the Congress record of winning 149 seats under the leadership of Madhavsinh Solanki in 1985. Even when the prime minister Narendra Modi was the chief minister, the BJP’s highest record was 127 seats in 2002 which went down to 117 in 2007, further down to 115 in 2012 and under Vijay Rupani to mere 99, just seven seats more than the majority mark.
