
Government to borrow Rs 8 trillion for first half of FY26
New Delhi: The Government of India will borrow Rs 8 trillion from market in the first half (H1) of 2025–26 to meet the gap between income and expenditure.
Accounting for 54 percent of the gross market borrowing market.
This borrowing will be completed through 26 weekly auctions.
Releasing the calendar for the issuance of government securities, the finance ministry said on Thursday that market borrowing would be spread across three-, five-, seven-, 10-, 15-, 30-, 40-, and 50-year securities.
As before, all these auctions will have the facility for non-competitive bidding , under which 5 percent of the notified auctions will be reserved for specified retail investors.
Temporary mismatches in government accounts will be looked at by the RB.
The government has set a fiscal deficit target of 4.4 percent for FY26.
