New Delhi: As part of the ongoing “Operation Samudra Setu”, Indian Navy Ship (INS) Jalashwa will evacuate on June 1 nearly 700 Indian nationals stranded in Sri Lanka.
The ship is expected to sail from Colombo on June 1 and arrive at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu the next day, media reports said.
This is part of the third phase of India’s mission, launched early in May, to bring back its citizens stranded abroad due to the prolonged COVID-19 induced nationwide lockdown. They are being air-lifted or shipped back in phases.
Until now, the Indian Navy had safely repatriated nearly 1,500 Indian nationals from the Maldives under “Operation Samudra Setu”, using two vessels, namely INS Jalashwa and INS Magar, on May 10, May 12 and May 17.
