NEW DELHI, Nov 30: To stop the spread of coronavirus in the country, Canada has further extended its restrictions for international travellers till January 21, 2021. A few weeks ago, the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau had cautioned about the country facing second wave of coronavirus which might become deadlier in winter.”

Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness – Bill Blair has announced that “Travel restrictions on US citizens would be extended until December 21, and curbs on people arriving from other countries would be extended until 21 January 2021.”

Canada had regularly extended the restrictions since March and did not allow any foreign citizen without valid purpose.

Some exceptions, however, have been allowed in the fresh restrictions. International students, immediate family members of citizens, seasonal workers, caregivers and essential workers will be allowed to enter Canada.

“The government continues to evaluate the travel restrictions and prohibitions as well as the requirement to quarantine or isolate on an on-going basis to ensure Canadians remain healthy and safe,” the minister said in a statement.

Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam on Sunday said “The country could see up to 10,000 cases a day in mid-December if we continue on the current pace of infection”

Canada has reported 370,278 Covid-19 cases and 12,032 deaths so far.
