NEW DELHI, Jan 2: The Blinkit on Thursday rolled out its first five ambulance vehicles in Gurugram on Thursday as part of its aim to curb medical aid distress in Indian cities.
Announcing the company’s scheme, the Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa on Thursday said the company would now provide an “ambulance in 10 minutes” through the app. He said the company was taking the first step towards “solving the problem of providing quick and reliable ambulance service” in the Indian cities, as part of which it rolled out the first five ambulances in Gurugram starting Thursday.
The customers will have the option to book a Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance through the Blinkit app as the company expands its services to more and more areas. The CEO informed that the ambulances have all basic facilities, such as essential life-saving equipment, which include oxygen cylinders, AED (Automated External Defibrillator), stretcher, monitor, suction machine, and essential emergency medicines and injections.
Each ambulance will have a paramedic and an assistant, besides a trained driver. The ambulances will be available “at an affordable cost.” “Profit is not a goal here. We will operate this service at an affordable cost for customers and invest in really solving this critical problem for the long term,” Dhindsa said.
The CEO said the company was aiming to expand its ambulance services to all major cities in the country over the next two years. “We are carefully scaling this service up, as it is both important and new to us. Our aim is to expand to all major cities over the next two years,” he said. “Let’s do our bit and make way for an ambulance always. You never know when you may save a life,” Dhindsa added.
