Global confidence in Andhra increasing: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan
New Delhi: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Monday participated in the Centenary Celebrations of Andhra University in Visakhapatnam, where he reiterated PM Narendra Modi’s vision that “Viksit Bharat” can only be achieved through “Viksit States.”
Sharing the stage with cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, the Vice-President spoke about the growing global confidence in Andhra Pradesh, highlighting investments and interest from major technology firms such as Google.
Drawing a parallel with Tendulkar’s journey, the Vice-President emphasised that success requires patience, noting that even the “God of Cricket”—Sachin Tendulkar’s epithet— had to wait to achieve his century of centuries.
He pointed out that Visakhapatnam is emerging as a major growth hub, particularly in sectors like data centres, IT, tourism, electronics, and digital infrastructure, with several projects including hyperscale data centres and IT investments.
He described it as an honour to be part of the historic celebration marking 100 years of excellence at Andhra University, noting that the institution has not only been a witness to history but has actively played a role in shaping it.
He added that over the past century, the university has functioned as a vibrant hub of ideas, nurturing generations of students who have made meaningful contributions to nation-building.
The Vice-President also paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former Vice-Chancellor of the university and one of India’s distinguished philosophers and statesmen, praising his vision of education as a means to develop both intellect and character—an idea that continues to remain relevant.
The Vice-President congratulated the people of Andhra Pradesh on Amaravati being declared the permanent capital of the state following the passage of the relevant Bill in Parliament.
He noted that he had the privilege to presided over the Rajya Sabha during the Bill’s passage and witnessed the sense of pride among citizens, calling the decision a step toward administrative clarity, direction, and stability.
On the occasion, he also released a commemorative coin, a commemorative stamp, and a coffee table book marking the university’s centenary.
Additionally, three Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed between Andhra University and the University of Florida, USA; Oxmiq Labs Inc., USA; and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in the presence of the Vice-President.
He later visited a photo exhibition that highlighted the rich history and evolution of Andhra University and its evolution.
