NEW DELHI, Jan 4: Three women activists of a farmers’ organisation were killed and 30 others injured after four buses carrying farmer union members to Kisan Mahapanchayats at Khanauri in Punjab and Tohana in Haryana called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), met with accidents amid dense fog on Saturday, the police said.

The bus in which three women supporters were killed was carrying over 52 members of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) (Ugrahan) from a village in Bathinda district to Haryana’s Tohana for a farmers’ mahapanchayat there and met with the accident at Barnala in Punjab. The deceased have been identified as Sarabjit Kaur Kothaguru, Jasbir Kaur and Balbir Kaur.

The accidents occurred at different locations between 9 am and 10 am amid dense fog conditions, which led to zero visibility on the road. The injured were taken to Civil Hospital, Barnala, for treatment.

“The accident took place at around 10 am. It was foggy with hardly any visibility. The bus hit the road divider and overturned. Five passengers are critical,” Jagbeer Singh Jhumba from BKU Ugrahan said.
