New Delhi: President Donald Trump is set to receive a briefing on new plans for potential military options against Iran on Thursday from Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), according to a report by Axios.

The briefing, scheduled for Thursday, according to the report and based on information from unnamed sources. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

CENTCOM has developed a plan for a “short and powerful” wave of strikes targeting key infrastructure in Iran, aimed at increasing pressure on Tehran in nuclear negotiations, Axios reported, citing sources.

Washington would hope to make Iran more flexible on the negotiating table on the nuclear issues, the report added.

Another option under consideration involves securing parts of the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the flow of commercial shipping, a move that could potentially involve ground forces.

The briefing may also include a special forces operation to secure Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, according to the report.

General Dan Caine, U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is also expected to attend the high-level meeting, Axios reported.
