Ahmedabad: Veteran Gujarati and Hindi actor Arvind Trivedi, who essayed the unforgettable role of Lanka’s monarch, Ravan, in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan tele serial in the 1980s, passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday night
He was 82.
His end came at his Kandivali residence in Mumbai, where he succumbed to a heart attack and multiple organ failure.
Trivedi’s nephew, Kaustubh, told the media that the veteran actor was unwell for the past few years and was hospitalized multiple times.
On Tuesday night, he suffered a heart attack around 9:30 pm. His last rites were performed on Wednesday morning.
Co-actor Sunil Lahiri, who played Laxman’s role in the serial, paid tribute on Wednesday by sharing a picture of the late actor on Instagram with a caption that read, “This is extremely sad news that our beloved Arvind Bhai is no longer among us. May God bring peace to his soul. I am speechless as I lost a father figure, my guide, well-wisher, and gentleman.”
Several actors, co-stars, politicians, and fans also paid tributes to the late actor on social media.
Trivedi had essayed a major role in another popular serial, Vikram Aur Betaal.
With a career spanning 40 years, Trivedi featured in over 300 Hindi and Gujarati films in social and mythological genres.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket in 1991 from Sabarkantha constituency in North Gujarat and served as a Member of Parliament until 1996. He had also served as the Acting Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after the removal of Vijay Anand from the post.
He came into the limelight again in 2020 when Doordarshan re-run the Ramayana serial on the national broadcaster during the pandemic. A social media viral video saw the late actor getting emotional over the Sita-abduction episode.
