Kolkata: A-24-year old brave woman pilot from Kolkata evacuated over 800 Indian students from Ukraine and its neighboring countries Poland, Romania, and Hungary. The call to report to duty was actually a normal one for a plane pilot but it turned out to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The 24-year-old, who is from Kolkata’s New Town locality, was relatively unknown, she has recently got spotlight to prominence after it was revealed that she airlifted 800 Indian students out of warzone Ukraine via the Polish and Hungarian borders.
Between February 27 and March 7, Mahasweta, which was part of Operation Ganga, flew six evacuation flights, four from Poland and two from Hungary.
“It was the experience of a lifetime, rescuing those students in their late teens and early twenties, many of who, had fallen sick and had traumatizing tales of survival. I salute their fighting spirit and am extremely proud of having played my part in their journey back home,” She said.
