Mumbai: The upcoming teen superhero flick by DC, The Wonder Twins, was scrapped by Warner Bros on Thursday, May 19, 2022. The planned film about DC comic characters has been shelved before the film goes into production in June.
Actors KJ Apa and Isabel May were to star as the teen alien siblings Zan and Jayna, who have strange powers that are activated upon touching each other. While Zan can turn water into any state, Jayna can transform into any animal of her choice.
Though the film was intended to stream on HBO Max, it was between the rules imposed by the newly merged Warner Bros-Discovery Media conglomerate.
The upcoming film did not comply with two rules that stated that films based on DC characters should aim for theatrical releases and the HBO Max original films should have a production budget of around $35 million.
The film was deemed too niche for a direct HBO Max debut without a theatrical release and its budget of $75 million was considered too expensive for a task as simple as retaining subscribers on the platform.
The Wonder Twins characters were first created for the 1970s animated TV series, The All-New Super Friends Hour, and were introduced into the DC Comics universe during the mid-90s.
