Tremblor: Earthquakes strike Andaman and Nicobar, J&K

New Delhi: According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), India experienced earthquakes in the Andaman and Nicobar islands and Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Informing about the earthquake in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, the NCS wrote on Twitter, “Earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred on February 17, 2022, at 12:46 am IST on latitude 8.32 and longitude 92.02 with a depth of 10km located 253 km Northwest of Campbell Bay, Andaman and Nicobar island, India.”

Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed another mild tremblor measuring 3.5 magnitude intensity on the Richter scale that jolted the Katra district on Thursday.

“Earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred on February 17, 2022, at 03:02 am IST on latitude 33.08 and longitude 75.83 with a depth of 5 km located 84 km East of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, India,” the NCS tweeted.

The region experienced a third earthquake after tremblors struck the Gulmarg and Pahalgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

A mild earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter scale struck Gulmarg at IST, whereas an earthquake with magnitude 3.2 on the Richter scale shook Pehlgam at IST on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

There has been no damage to property or casualties so far.
