New Delhi: An earthquake with a magnitude intensity of 4.0 on the Richter scale struck the Kargil district of Ladakh around 10 am on Monday, February 28, 2022. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported the tremblor.
Sharing a seismograph that highlighted the effect of the tremblor in adjoining areas, the NCS tweeted, “Earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred on February 28, 2022, at 10:28 am IST on latitude 35.67 and longitude 75.24 with a depth of 130 km located 148 km North-Northwest of Kargil, Ladakh, India.”
No damage or casualties have surfaced so far.
Kargil experienced the second earthquake after a 4.3 magnitude tremblor struck on February 22. “Earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred on February 22, 2022, at 08:35 am IST on latitude 35.74 and longitude 75.32 with a depth of 10 km located 151 km North-Northwest of Kargil, Ladakh, India,” the NCS wrote.
Several earthquakes jolted the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir this month. A 3.5 magnitude earthquake shook the Katra district on February 17, and a 3.5 tremblor jolted the Pahalgam district on February 16, 2022.
On the other hand, the Gulmarg district faced two earthquakes with magnitude 4.0 on February 16 and magnitude 3.8 on February 10, 2022.
