Tremblor: A 3.1 magnitude earthquake jolts J&K

New Delhi: A mild earthquake measuring a magnitude intensity of 3.1 on the Richter scale jolted the Katra district and adjoining districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) took to Twitter and shared a seismograph, highlighting the affected areas.

“Earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred on August 23, 2022, at 02:17 IST on latitude 33.28 and longitude 75.69 with a depth of 5 km located 77km of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, India,” the NCS informed.

The tremblor was experienced twelve hours after the region experienced a 3.9 magnitude earthquake.

The NCS took to twitter to inform about the tremblor and wrote, “Earthquake of magnitude 3.9 occurred on August 23, 2022, at 02:20 IST on latitude 33.07 and longitude 75.58 with a depth of 10km located 61 km East of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, India.”

No reports of property damages or casualties surfaced so far.
