Tremblor: 10 earthquakes jolt Andaman and Nicobar Islands on July 5

New Delhi: Ten consecutive earthquakes jolted the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday, July 05, 2022. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) is closely monitoring the tremblors in the region.

The NCS shared seismographs highlighting the affected areas. The latest tremblor measured a 4.3 magnitude on the Richter scale that was located 187km South-East of the capital city, Port Blair.

“Earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred on July 05, 2022, 08:05 am IST on latitude 10.27 and longitude 93.75 with a depth of 30km,  located 187km SE of Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar island, India,” the NCS informed.

Another earthquake measuring a 5.0 magnitude also struck the Islands around 06:00 am on Tuesday. “Earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred on July 05, 2022, 05:57 am IST on latitude 10.54 and longitude 94.36 with a depth of 44km,  located 215km ESE of Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar island, India,” the NCS said.

Meanwhile, two earthquakes measuring magnitudes 4.5 and 4.4 on the Richter scale were felt around 01:30 am and 2 am respectively in the Campbell Bay district and adjoining areas.

The earliest earthquake to hit the region measured a 4.6 magnitude on the Richter scale. It struck around 12:00 am on Tuesday, July 05, 2022.

Informing about the earthquake, the NCS wrote, “Earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred on July 05, 2022, 12:03 am IST on latitude 10.29 and longitude 94.19 with a depth of 30km,  located 218km SE of Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar island, India.”
