Guwahati: The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Guwahati Police, and Forest Officials recovered multiple body parts of a tiger, including the tiger skin, from a petrol pump near the national highway at Banderdewa, Assam, on Tuesday evening.

The body parts included four canine teeth, 18 nails, several bones, and a skull weighing 14.4 kg. According to officials, the skin belonged to a royal Bengal tiger.

Three people, identified as Tape Yomcha and Naynay Yomcha from Arunachal Pradesh and Probin Doley from Assam, were detained with the help of an operation commanded by the Assistant Director-in-charge of WCCB SRO (Guwahati).

The items were seized based on inputs from the Harmuti Range under Lakhimpur Division, Assam Police, and Arunachal Pradesh Forest and Police departments. The departments were part of the operation.

According to an official statement, “It came to light during preliminary interrogation that the tiger was poached in retaliatory killing as it was hunting down cattle in the villages under the West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.”

“The case was handed to the Haramuti Range for further investigation,” the statement added.
