New Delhi: The Indian army unveiled a new uniform for combat soldiers on the 76th Army Day on Saturday, January 15, 2022. The Parachute Regiment flaunted the new uniform when they marched in the annual parade at the Cariappa Parade ground, New Delhi.

The uniform was in sync with the 2022 theme, In Stride for the Future, which acknowledges the increasingly critical role of disruptive technologies in modern warfare.

“The uniform was designed in association with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) after studying combat uniforms of several countries. We analysed four different fabrics, eight designs, and nearly 15 patterns before finalizing,” the official statement read.

The camouflaged uniform consists of different colours and shades, including olive green and earthen, keeping the area of troop deployment and climatic conditions in mind.

According to the statement, “The new uniform is more comfortable, and soldiers can wear the light fabric in all types of terrains. It has an informal look as the new shirts need not be tucked in the trousers. They are required to wear a round neck T-shirt under the shirt.”

The 76th Army Day began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers and their kin. Gallantry awards and a show of modern weapons were also held.
