New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological department took to Twitter to announce fresh developments in the cyclonic situation on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

“SCS Asani lay centered at 05:30 hrs IST near lat 15.8°N and long  81.4°E about 40 km south of Machilipatnam.  Likely to move nearly northwards for next few hours and recurve slowly North-Northeastwards and emerge into West-central Bay of Bengal, off North Andhra Pradesh coasts by night,” the IMD tweeted on Wednesday.

IMD had earlier predicted that the cyclone will reach close to the coast of Andhra Pradesh by the morning of May 11, 2022.

“SCS Asani lay centered at 23:30 hrs IST  near lat 15.5°N and long 81.6°E about 90 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam. It is very likely to move nearly Northwestwards and reach West-central Bay of Bengal close to Andhra Pradesh coast by 11th morning,” the IMD wrote.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is closely monitoring the movement of the Severe Cyclonic Storm (SCS), Asani since the first signs of its formation emerged last week.

It has issued 30 national bulletins since May 7, thereby predicting the track of the cyclone and alerting civic administrations about the possible damages.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla had reviewed the preparedness of ministries, agencies, and administrations of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on Tuesday to tackle the impending cyclone in the Bay of Bengal.

Flight services have been suspended in Vishakhapatnam due to the cyclonic threat. Meanwhile, Indigo cancelled 23 flight services from the Port City.
