New Delhi: Ranbir Kapoor’s sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni shared wedding photographs from Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt’s wedding on Friday, April 15, 2022. The minimalistic yet elegant wedding took place on Thursday, April 14, 2022.
The groom’s sister shared the Gatbandhan photographs on social media. The pictures show Riddhima and her eldest cousin Karishma Kapoor tying the gatbandhan knot.
The wedding was a private affair that was attended by close friends and family. The guest list included Karishma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Aadar Jain, Shaheen Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt, Karan Johar, Ayan Mukerji, and Akansha Ranjan among others. Alia’s parents Soni Razdan and Mahesh Bhatt were also present.
Alia Bhatt posted the photographs on social media with a caption that read, “Today, surrounded by our family and friends, at home… in our favourite spot – the balcony we’ve spent the last 5 years of our relationship – we got married. With so much already behind us, we can’t wait to build more memories together … memories that are full of love, laughter, comfortable silences, movie nights, silly fights, wine delights and Chinese bites.”
“Thank you for all the love and light during this very momentous time in our lives. It has made this moment all the more special. Love, Ranbir and Alia,” she added.
Tying the gatbandhan knot is one of the several wedding rituals. The knot signifies the union of the couple. The ceremony included tying one end of the bride’s veil to the dupatta of the groom. Ingredients including a coin, a flower, tumeric, durva grass and raw rice are tied together in a knot. Each ingredient has its significance.
Sisters of the groom usually perform the ritual. Veteran actor and mother Neetu Kapoor and actor-sister Kareena Kapoor are also present during the ceremony.
The couple dated for five years before getting married. Though they fell for one another during the sets of Brahmastra, the two made their relationship official at Sonam Kapoor’s wedding in May 2018.
