New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate railway infrastructure projects worth around ₹1,535 crore in Telangana today, aimed at boosting rail connectivity, reducing congestion and improving passenger and freight movement across the region.
The projects include key sections of the Kazipet–Vijayawada multi-tracking corridor and the Kazipet Rail Under Rail Bypass, which are expected to significantly improve operational efficiency on one of the country’s busiest rail routes.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the 118-km multi-tracking project covers the Warangal–Kazipet, Nekonda–Mahabubabad and Errupalem–Dornakal Junction sections. The upgraded corridor is expected to benefit districts including Hanumakonda, Warangal, Mahabubabad and Khammam.
The Kazipet–Vijayawada route forms part of the crucial Grand Trunk corridor connecting northern and southern India and handles heavy passenger as well as freight traffic.
Officials said the multi-tracking work will enhance line capacity, improve punctuality and enable faster movement of both passenger and freight trains. The upgraded infrastructure is also expected to reduce congestion and minimise delays for freight services operating on the route.
Passengers travelling between Telangana and destinations across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and northern India are likely to benefit from improved transit and smoother train operations through the corridor.
The enhanced freight capacity is also expected to support faster transportation of coal, cement, fertilisers, agricultural produce and industrial goods, benefiting industries, farmers and businesses in the region.
The Prime Minister will also dedicate the 21-km Kazipet Rail Under Rail Bypass project, aimed at easing congestion at the busy Kazipet Junction.
The bypass will allow simultaneous train movement towards Hyderabad, Balharshah and Vijayawada, reducing operational conflicts and waiting time for trains. Railway officials said the project would improve punctuality and streamline train operations on the important Delhi–Chennai route.
The Ministry said the bypass would further strengthen freight efficiency and allow smoother movement of long-distance passenger and freight trains without routing conflicts at the junction.
The projects are part of Indian Railways’ broader push to modernise rail infrastructure, improve passenger convenience and strengthen regional connectivity across Telangana and neighbouring states.
