PM Modi pays tribute to Former Chief Justice of India RC Lahoti

New Delhi: According to family members, former Chief Justice of India (CJI), Ramesh Chandra Lahoti, also known as Justice RC Lahoti, passed away in a New Delhi hospital on Wednesday evening. He was 81 years old.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the late RC Lahoti on Twitter with a caption that read, “Anguished by the passing away of former CJI Shri RC Lahoti Ji. He will be remembered for his contributions to the judiciary and emphasis on ensuring speedy justice to the underprivileged. Condolences to his family and well-wishers. Om Shanti.”

Born on November 1, 1940, Lahoti was directly recruited to the Bench in April 1977 from the Bar to the State Higher Judicial Service and was appointed District and Sessions judge. He was appointed the 35th Chief Justice of India on June 01, 2004. He retired on November 01, 2005.
