New Delhi: British Prime Minister on Friday criticized the Beijing government for imposing sanctions on UK’s four entities and nine UK individuals. “The freedom to speak against the abuse faced by Uyghurs in Xinjiang is fundamental.” PM Johnson said in his statement.
PM Johnson also tweeted that “The MPs and other British citizens sanctioned today – are performing a vital role in shining a light on the gross human rights violations in Xinjiang.”
Beijing has sanctioned individuals and organizations in the UK who it said “maliciously spread lies and disinformation” – days after the British government imposed sanctions on Chinese officials for alleged human rights abuses in Xinjiang.
It means they will be banned from entering Hong Kong and Macau as well as mainland China.
Foreign Secretary of UK Dominic Raab revealed the Chinese ambassador in London will be summoned to be told the UK government “will not be silenced” in speaking out about human rights abuses.
