Mumbai: Creator Steven Knight recently revealed a spinoff feature film of the popular BBC crime series, Peaky Blinders. He said that the story will culminate into the spinoff after season 6 of the series.
Talking about the anticipated spinoff film of the much-appreciated franchise, Knight spoke about how the film is taking shape and that production will kick off soon as Knight is about to complete the script.
“Yes, I’m writing it right now. I’m nearly done writing it, and we’re going to shoot it… I’m setting up some film and television studios in Digbeth in Birmingham,” Knight said during an interview.
Knight also revealed that he had a historical motive for picking shoot locations. “We’re going to shoot it at the studios in Digbeth, and on location in Digbeth in Birmingham. Digbeth and Small Heath is where the Peaky Blinders actually roamed. So it’s like Peaky’s coming home basically,” Knight revealed.
While the details about the film are limited, the project is expected to serve as a befitting closing curtain on the Shelby family and their gang. Knight hinted that the film might include a few familiar and a few new characters.
Peaky Blinders developed a strong fan base since it was first launched on Netflix. The most adored contemporary British drama series received lots of praise and critical acclaim before winning the BAFTA award for the Best Drama Series in 2018.
The British television show was based on the real eponymous street gang that followed Shelby’s ambitious leadership of the group as it sought to spread its roots outside of Birmingham. The series ran across six seasons and is streaming on OTT giant, Netflix.
