New Delhi: A group of monkeys grabbed a two-month-old infant from the room and flung the baby in a water tank outside the house. The incident took place in the Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.
The infant, named Keshav Kumar, was sleeping next to his grandmother in the afternoon when the incident occurred. Keshav and his grandmother were sleeping in a room adjacent to the terrace when the monkeys first entered the terrace.
Seeing the open door, they entered the room and dragged the infant outside the house, and flung him inside the water tank.
When the grandmother woke up, she raised alarm on finding the baby missing. The family began searching for the toddler. The family members found Keshav’s body floating in the water tank hours later.
The infant’s parents informed the police of a similar accident. The monkeys previously tried to snatch Keshav, but alert relatives and family members thwarted their attempts.
Talking about the incident, Station House Officer of Chandigarh, O.P. Singh, said on Monday, “The monkey menace is a major issue, and we are informing forest officials to take necessary action.”
