Marathon: World record holder Kelvin Kiptum died in a road accident

New Delhi, February 12:  Marathoner Kelvin Kiptum, 24, was killed in a car accident along with his coach, Gervais Hakizimana, in western Kenya on Sunday.

According to the media reports quoting his family, the accident occurred Sunday night when Kelvin Kiptum was driving the car.

After the mishap, police took the two bodies to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. In 2023, Kelvin Kiptum broke the record in a marathon of running 42 kilometres in only 2 hours and 35 seconds.

He had also won major tournaments in marathons, notably the London and Chicago races, the two most prestigious marathons in the world. He earned quick success when he became the fastest debutant in 2022 in the Valencia Marathon.
