Malayalam actor Kottayam Pradeep succumbs to heart attack

Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam actor Pradeep KR, also known as Kottayam Pradeep, succumbed to a heart attack on Thursday, February 17, 2022. The family members rushed the 61-year-old actor to a hospital in Kottayam, Kerala, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The unexpected demise sent shockwaves across the Malayalam film industry, as several fans and celebrities paid tribute to the late actor.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took to social media and wrote, “Kottayam Pradeep was a special actor who kept even small characters bright in the minds of the entertainers through his unique style. Condolence to his family and loved ones.”

Pradeep began his career as a theatre artist. He received a breakthrough in the film industry in 2001 at the age of 40.

He was appreciated for his performances in comedy films and his comic timing. The actor featured in more than 70 movies, including a few Tamil films.

Some of Pradeep’s best works include Rajamanikyam, Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeevi Aanu, Oru Vadakkan Selfie, Welcome to Central Jail, Amar Akbar Antony, Life of Josutty, Kunjiramayanam, 2 Harihar Nagar, Adi Kapyare Kootamani, and Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan, among others.

Pradeep won the Best Supporting actor in 2016 at the second Asianet Comedy Awards. He will appear in the film, Aarattu, for the last time ever. The film will release tomorrow, February 18, 2022.

He is survived by wife Maya and two children, Vishnu and Vrinda.
