Indian students with Pakistan degrees to be ineligible for jobs

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) advised students to avoid pursuing higher studies from Pakistan.

The Commission and AICTE issued a joint public notice dated April 22, 2022. It highlighted that any Indian national or overseas student admitted to any educational institute in Pakistan will not be eligible for higher education or employment in India.

“All concerned are advised not to travel to Pakistan for pursuing Higher Education, Any Indian national/Overseas Citizen of India who intends to take admission in any degree college/educational institution of Pakistan shall not be eligible for seeking employment or higher studies in India on the basis of such educational qualifications (in any subject) acquired in Pakistan,” the notice read.

On the other hand, those migrants and their wards who acquired higher education degrees in any subject from Pakistan and Indian citizenship would be eligible to seek employment after obtaining a security clearance from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, as per the notice.

“However, migrants and their children who have acquired higher education degrees in Pakistan and have been awarded citizenship by India would be eligible for seeking employment in India after obtaining Security Clearance from the M.H.A,” it added.
