INDIA: 60 percent of the eligible population fully vaccinated against COVID-19

New Delhi: Amid the rising tension over a new variant of the Covid-19 ‘Omicron’ – the Union Health Ministry released the latest data in which they mentioned that around 60 percent of the eligible population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Over the new milestone of India have set – Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya thanked the health workers – who have done their job fabulously and the people of India.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and several doctors across the World have emphasized vaccinating the population against coronavirus to lesser done the severity of the disease.

According to the Ministry, India uses Covishield, Covaxin, Sputnik V vaccines to fight against the virus. Covishield, the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, is being manufactured by Serum Institute of India – While India’s indigenous ‘Covaxin’ has been developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research. Sputnik V vaccine is a Russian-made vaccine.

However, the new variant of Covid-19 ‘Omicron’ poses new challenges to the World. The very well-known doctors have called for the Inoculation of the health workers and the citizens with the booster or additional dose.

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on the Omicron said that “there is no evidence to suggest that existing vaccines do not work against Omicron variant of coronavirus, some of the mutations reported on spike gene may decrease the efficacy of existing vaccines.”
