IMD predicts rainfall in Southern parts of India

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted the rainfall conditions in Southern parts of India on Friday, May 20, 2022.

According to IMD a cyclonic circulation over the Southern Indian peninsular is the major reason for the showers n the region.

Sharing a spatial rainfall distribution map, the IMD wrote, “A cyclonic circulation lies over South interior Karnataka and neighbourhood in middle and upper tropospheric levels. A north-south trough runs across Central and Peninsular India.”

There will be heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in parts of South India under the influence of the cyclone.

“Widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds very likely over Kerala-Mahe during next 5 days and over Karnataka during May 20 to May 22, 2022,” the IMD tweeted.

Predicting rainfall in Karnataka, the department wrote, “Isolated heavy to very heavy falls over Coastal and South interior Karnataka on May 21.”

Meanwhile, it informed about isolated heavy rainfall that is expected to occur over the Kerala region during May 20 to May 22, 2022.

“Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds over Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana during next 5 days,” IMD added.

Talking about the decrease in rainfall, the department wrote, “Significant reduction in rainfall activity over South Peninsular India from May 21, 2022.”
