New Delhi: Mir payment system cards may soon be accepted in four more countries, Olga Skorobogatova, First Deputy Chairperson of the Bank of Russia, told reporters on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. She did not specify the countries.

“We have good news. In addition to the 10 countries that now accept Mir cards, there are four more on the agenda. I cannot say the names, but just over the last two months, two countries have been added. We hope that you will learn about them soon,” Skorobogatova said.

Currently, Mir cards are accepted in 10 foreign countries: Turkey, Vietnam, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, South Ossetia, and Abkhazia.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum organized by the Roscongress Foundation is running from June 15 to 18. This year’s forum is dubbed: ‘New Opportunities in a New World’. The SME Forum, the Creative Business Forum, the Drug Security Forum, the SPIEF Junior Dialogue, and SPIEF Sports Week are also going to be part of the SPIEF event. Media serves as the event’s official photo hosting agency and the information partner.

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War that began in 2014. The invasion caused Europe’s fastest-growing refugee crisis since World War II, with more than 7.5 million Ukrainians fleeing the country and a third of the population displaced.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow had no plans to occupy Ukrainian territories, and the goal was to demilitarize and denazify the country.
