New Delhi: India’s Embassy in Bhutan on Thursday hosted an Indian mango trade-cum-exhibition at the India House Estate in the national capital Thimphu in the presence of government officials and importers.
These mango samples were provided by the Uttar Pradesh State Horticultural Co-operative Marketing Federation (HOFED).
The embassy tweeted about the “flavor and taste of succulent mangoes from #India with a Bollywood hit song by a Bhutanese band at India House”.
Earlier this week, as part of the India@75 Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence, the embassy and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority of India (APEDA) hosted a virtual buyer-seller meeting between the HOFED and Bhutanese importers.
Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj said the Indian mangoes are extremely popular in Bhutan and there is even greater scope for promoting this agri-product in the Bhutanese market.
India is committed to ensuring full support to Bhutan on agri-trade matters during Covid times, she said.
Senior officials from India, the Royal Government of Bhutan, and the business community attended the event. It gave Bhutanese importers an overview of the production and export of mangoes from India, as well as giving the Indian side a better understanding of the market’s needs in Bhutan.
In the last two years, Bhutan’s mango imports from India surged by more than 80 percent, from 442 MT (worth Rs. 2 crores) in 2019 to 806 MT (Rs. 5 crores) in 2020.
