Mumbai: The makers of the upcoming war film, Shershaah, shared its first official trailer on social media on Thursday.

It is a biopic inspired by the life of the Indian Army’s Captain Vikram Batra and his sacrifice in the 1999 Kargil War, for which he was decorated with the country’s highest gallantry award, Paramveer Chakra, posthumously.

The release of the film, earlier scheduled for July 2020, was postponed due to the global pandemic. It will now release on Amazon Prime Video on August 12, ahead of Independence Day.

A day later, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India, based on the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, will also be premiered on August 13, on Disney+Hotstar.

Shershaah has been directed by Vishnu Varadhan and jointly produced by Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment.

The war drama stars Siddharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani, Shiv Pandit, Raj Arjun, Pranay Pachauri, Himanshu Ashok Malhotra, Nikitin Dheer, Ankita Goraya, Anil Charanjeett, Sahil Vaid, Shataf Figar, and Pawan Chopra.

Filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions launched the teaser on Instagram with a caption that read, “With immense gratitude and pride in our hearts, we mark the beginning of this journey.”

The one-and-a-half-minute inspirational teaser informs that the Kargil War was India’s first televised war. It also focuses on Captain Vikram Batra, who was martyred during mountain combat in the war.

About the film, Johar said, “Shershaah is the true story of a war hero whose indomitable spirit and bravery brought victory to our nation. His sacrifices are invaluable, and his life is an inspiration for generations to come.”

“We are glad to have found a home for a true cinematic marvel in Amazon Prime Video and are excited to mark the beginning of a new chapter in our relationship with them. Shershaah is our homage to the valor of our soldiers, and I hope every viewer’s heart swells with pride watching this film,” he added.

The film is co-produced by Hiroo Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shabbir Boxwala, Ajay Shah, and Himanshu Gandhi.
