Mumbai: Businessman and Telugu film producer RR Venkat passed away in Hyderabad on Monday due to kidney failure.
He was 54. He was undergoing renal infection treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad.
Owner of RR Movie Makers, Venkat had produced several blockbusters and star-studded big-budget films. Besides Tollywood, his distribution house had also financed the award-winning Hindi romantic thriller, Ek Hasina Thi.
Venkat even ventured into Hollywood with a 2012 English film, Divorce Invitation, starring Jonathan Bennett in the lead role. It was a remake of Aahwanam by S. V. Krishna Reddy, a Telugu film with Srikanth and Ramya Krishnan as the protagonists.
He revived the careers of many directors and received an honorary doctorate from the Open International University for Complementary Medicines at the University of Colombo in 2011 for his role and contribution as a social worker.
