Cyclone Asani to weaken during the next 24 hours: IMD

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) provided fresh information regarding the cyclone Asani through social media on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.

The IMD took to Twitter and wrote, “Severe Cyclonic Storm (SCS) Asani lay centered at 11:30 am IST today about 210km SSE of Kakinada, 310km SSW of Visakhapatnam, to reach close to Kakinada and Visakhapatnam coasts by 11th morning and move along Andhra Pradesh coast and weaken into a Cyclonic Storm by 11th morning.”

The department had earlier issued a warning against heavy rainfall on Tuesday. “Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal Odisha from 10 night,” the IMD tweeted.

The Met Department also issued an advisory for fishermen that read, “Total suspension of fishing operations over West-central Bay of Bengal during 10th to 11th, and over Northwest Bay of Bengal from May 10 to May 12, 2022. Fishermen out at sea are advised to return to coast.”
