New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday morning informed that 11,850 cases have been reported in the country in the last 24 hours, and the active caseload of the country has now dropped to its lowest in 274 days. The count of active cases in the country has now declined to 1,36,308.
The Union Health Ministry further informed that India also registered 555 coronavirus-related deaths and 12,403 recoveries in the last 24 hours. India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has also crossed the 111-crore landmark milestone after over 58 lakh vaccine doses were administered on Friday.
Coronavirus pandemic has killed more than 4.63 lakh people in India and 3,38,26,483 people have been discharged so far after getting infected by the deadliest virus.
Meanwhile, Europe has become the epicenter of the pandemic again and some governments are considering re-imposing lockdowns in the run-up to Christmas. Countries like the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic are taking or planning measures to curb the spread.
The continent, notably, accounts for more than half of the average 7-day infections globally and about half of the latest deaths, the highest levels since April last year when the virus was at its initial peak in Italy.
